Healthy Families East Cape is part of a large-scale initiative that brings community leadership in the East Cape together in a united effort for better population health. We aim to improve the health of our people – where we live, learn, work and play – in order to prevent chronic disease. Our purpose is to challenge communities to think differently about the underlying causes of poor health, and to make changes – in our schools, workplaces, sports clubs, marae and other key community settings – that will help people make healthier choices.
Strengthening Prevention
Many of our East Cape and Tairāwhiti whānau are affected by the rise of preventable chronic disease. Our dynamic systems approach provides an opportunity to look at the underlying causes of poor health. We look at how the systems that influence our everyday lives and the environments we live in play a role in our health and wellbeing.
Korero - ‘nothing about me, without me’
It is about believing in the potential of people to come together around a common purpose to create change in their communities, places or across systems. We call this collective action. Working with our partners and community, we drive community-led change by connecting people and organisations to create the change necessary for good health and wellbeing. We support their leadership, enable them to take action and implement local initiatives and approaches to demonstrate that together we can create an East Cape and Tairāwhiti where whānau and communities are healthy and thriving.
